Car ran out of MOT last friday, as the traffic office on saturday kindly reminded me when he pulled me over :P
So got a new n/s driveshaft from J&R, which tbh seemed very good quality, and i was impressed to see it on my doorstep after ordering it at 1pm the day before! Got that on there, although im sure its knocking already after a bit of corner acceleration!? As long as its not split for MOT happy days.
Also got the UKDM headlights with amber corners on, as well as finally ripping the A/C out, had no gas anyway, and seemed stupid to have in a convertible! The car looks muchos better without tadpole face anymore though. Also got the horn working so now i can road rage ppls once more. Just waiting for toyos to come through the post then stick it through an MOT with fingers crossed. Getting some rear camber arms on thursday too as im fed up with rubbing going round the slightest right hand corner, i can take lefts as hard as i want and it doesnt rub at all so i need to get it sorted!
Some dusty pics...
Also went to put my lip on, but it just fits so shit i didnt even bother in the end! Need to go and chat to Stew i think see what he can sort out that will fit good!
9 updates 13 followers 12 mods2012-04-24 17:21:08Little update, spent last saturday changing the wheel studs and fitting spacers! At first i bought tegiwa studs (facepalm), but these required the hub holes to be redrilled to 14mm! So i sent them back and they happily accepted so happy days. I decided to get some ARP studs from Scott@H-Tune, Arp studs at low low prices!
He also sent me 3 packs of 4 and 1 pack of 5 so i had one spare :P
Got these a few weeks before as they came up cheap! 16mm Spacers with the 56.1 centre bore size
Also some spigot rings as the wedsports have a 73.1 centre bore, i can highly recommend these as they did eliminate high speed vibrations, and i think not running them was partly the reason for having a snapped stud. Now the proper way to change the studs is to remove the whole assembly and have it taken to somewhere that can press the hub apart to allow the removal of studs, BUT i dont like paying anyone to do anything :P So i did some research and found that you can actually just groove the back of the bearing housing/hub until there is enough room to tap the studs out, i wont show any pictures of that as it looks a PROPER bodge (which it is really i suppose), anyway after about 30 minutes with an angle grinder, mini air grinder, a dremel and some carbide dremel pieces, i eventually managed to get it grooved enouh to get this CUNT out:
Then one by one i rotated the hub and knocked the rest out, the ARP's are obviously longer so i had to do a tiny bit more grooving to get them back in, but here is the end result on the passenger side, took about an hour from start to finish that side.
The drivers side took far less time and looked exactly the same so no pics.
The backs were a dream to do, i simply pulled the hubs, pressed the studs out in the vice, then used the spacer a few washers, open ended wheel nut and the impact gun to pull the new studs through! It also gave a me a chance to regrease the fucked wheel bearings (they're not noisy just have obviously got far too hot at some point meaning the casing was no longer sealed, i only noticed they were fucked when removing) so that gave me some peace of mind until they get ticked off the shopping list.
I was extremely happy with how the car sat after the spacers were on!
Before (not a very good example pic but the only i have)
After (again not a very good comparison pic)
Now like with everything to do with cars, fixing one thing only reveals the next, firstly, the front is rubbing slightly round roundabouts and other sharp corners if taken too fast, nothing camber arms wont fix hopefully. BUT the back is slightly odd... the drivers side wheel sits as expected, and has the correct amount of camber so only just slightly rub it driving fast round a corner, however the passenger side sits totally different, and rubs like a mother fucked round roundabouts! Some crap comparison pics..:
Drivers side sitting nicely
Passenger side, sitting with NO camber making it stick out at the top by nearly 1.5 inches roughly!
This is really bugging me and im obviously thinking something is bent, i was going to replace the lower arms first for some shiny ones, unless anyone else has a better idea?? Obviously its butchering the tyre so it needs to be sorted ASAP. If anyone has any ideas or theories all info is muchos appreciated!
Also got these from Jim, hopefully go on this weekend then goodbye to tadpole face front end!
Still to do:
- Replace N/S driveshaft before MOT in may.
- Fix the horn before MOT in may.
- Rip the aircon out and make use of this frickin air con delete bung i bought months ago.
- Try and sell some of the mountain of shit in my room to buy more parts!
- Fit front lip.
- Fix the fucking boot leak.
- Try and find some decent condition roof seals! :(
The car has also been spluttering about 7k rpm on and off sometimes, need to single out why this could be, contemplating H-Tunes group buy on HT leads.
These tadpole lights will also be for sale if anyones interested!
ExteriorSmoothed Front Bumper
9 updates 13 followers 12 mods2012-04-03 17:14:06Managed to get the smoothed bumper on over the weekend! Still not 100% on it and definatley want to respray it at some point but i think i prefer the look of it over the AUX lights
Camera hides the difference in colour match very well, i think im going to get it resprayed soon, not sure if i want to undertake doing the whole lot!
Opinions welcome as always!
Also, went to replace the wheel studs saturday aswell, little did i know you need to split the front hubs, after little luck in finding anywhere that wants to undertake that and re-drilling the hubs to have 14mm holes, i have just bought ARP extended studs that should hopefully be here wednesday, got spacers through the post and think they will be the perfect size for the wheels! Also got spigot rings through the post and put them on the front and it is so much nicer to drive on the motorways now! No more horrible speed shake.
9 updates 13 followers 12 mods2012-03-23 13:24:33Finished the smoothed bumper over the weekend, its pissed me off the few little discrepansies with it though, its also a completley different colour to the rest of the car so i havnt fitted it yet! Its not a bad colour match, just the original paint is so dull now... Its whether i can get the car through the factory to the booth... Or just do the bonnet and wings with it (which i was going to do anyway), i just dont know if it will look stupid!
Sorry about the camera pictures, id lost my rag by the end of it ha
Not visible in the picture you can just see where the passenger side AUX used to be, only from very specific angles, but it will do my head in! I was so sure i had it perfect as well, unfortunatley you only see those sorts of details once the clear coat goes on.
9 updates 13 followers 12 mods2012-03-12 08:49:36Yesterday i whipped the spoiler off and put some grommets in the holes temporarily to see how much i liked it, and tbh i think it looks a million times better! I'm still maybe thinking just some tiny wheel spacers to get it to sit a bit nicer. I also got alot done with prepping my other bumper, i have cut out and smoothed over the badge holes, number plate mount holes and the 2 AUX lights, it just needs a final skim over before its ready for paint, i'm in 2 minds as to colour code the front splitter with the blue of the car, or whether to colour code it to the wheels?!
Heres some pictures anyway.
You can get a truer idea of what colour the wheels are in the sunlight!
9 updates 13 followers 12 mods2012-03-09 14:45:21Right so i've done a few bits since the last update, firstly i changed the noisy driveshaft a few weekends back, this all went until i drove it hard once and the second hand one i bought started making noises too! So i've decided to just buy 2 new brand new ones when i get the chance & ££££.
I also redone the Weds Sports TC05's, i had been planning to do this for a long time so got my arse in gear last weekend and sorted them out. I took the friday off work to get the wheels prepped and get some paint, but not before a little clean and putting on the rear window Transtop sticker i got!
Cheesy but effective!
Now two of the wheels were white but the other two were this colour.
I went at the wheels with gun cleaner & wirewool to get through this shit, and actually ended up spending all of friday and most of saturday prepping the wheels making sure that they were perfect.
I then put 2 coats of primer on ready for the base coat sunday morning:
I wanted a colour that looked like Bronze, but with a sort of tint of gunmetal to it, gunmetal bronze?
Anyways this is what the colour looks like before clear coat
I let this dry then wen on with 2 coats of clear, flatting between coats
I was chuffed with the results!! The booth lights distort the colour on the camera a little bit, but the colour really comes out in the sun.
I then lost the locking wheel nut key so had a nightmare monday not being able to get them on. Tuesday i beat a socket on the locking nuts (soft as shit ally) and got them off, only to find that a lot of the studs had fucked threads, so i used some old ally nuts i had lying around, and threaded them to the fucked threads to use temporarily. I also got some D1 Spec Nuts that went on the rest of the studs.
Just to piss me off a bit more the paint went all fucked and twisted when i done the wheels up :( Livid.
I do like the Weds Sports, they are gorgeous wheels, im just not to keen on how far in the arches they sit, acceleration is noticeably better and the steering is much nicer! Super lightweight. Im going to get some small spacers and see how they look after!
This weekend, hopefully get the spoiler and just plug the holes with some colour coded grommets for the minute, i also need to prep the front bumper and splitter, also need some advice as to the best way to smoooth over of the AUX lights on the new bumper, as i prefer the look of a facelift bumper!

9 updates 13 followers 12 mods2012-02-15 19:31:29Right, so last week i got my Gathers rear speaker covers through, and also some windscreen wipers that i wanted, as my drivers side didn't have the air deflector thing! Both the covers and wipers had seen better days paint wise, they grilles on the covers had started to go rusty and the wipers were flaking.
So saturday i went down to the yard, stopping off at halfords on the way to pick up some cheap 6.5" speakers (Alpines £35 what a bargain), and some Satin Black paint.
Heres what my previous wipers looked like!
So i got the wipers rubbed down, put a 1st coat on and left them to dry in front of the heater while i rubbed down and masked up the Gathers covers.
After first coat:
Gathers covers masked up and first coat:
Wipers after the second coat:
And a picture of the new wipers on! Though i need a sure fire way to get the cowling back to a similar condition, i tried the heatgun technique, but all it done was try to turn the plastic to a funny browny/green/grey colour, even on a low setting heat setting!
Gathers covers finished:
I also took Driftworks up on their 0% finance offer :P Although i had a bit of a nightmare with the delivery (wrong postcode when sent out!) All was easily resolved and the customer service offered was next level!
I ordered: Nardi 350mm Deep Corn Wheel, Nardi gearknob, and a HKB Boss. So i got that through the post yesterday and have just finished putting it all in! Although can anyone shed some light on this loose ring that comes with a HKB hub? I have left it out for the momment as it didn't let me fit the Horn into the wheel, the wheel is sturdy and deffinatley not coming off.. I Also attempted to try and get the horn working properly, but i need to try and find out why the wheel connection stopped working first!
Anyway heres some pictures:
The quality of Nardi products is second to none, i'm so glad i went with their products!!
And the wheel is so nice! So light... :P
All fitted in the car! Exscuse the pictures there wasn't a lot of light by the time i finished!
And some random pictures from a week or 2 ago, it no longer looks so clean on the front end as the dog has jumped up all over it causing dents & scratches the LITTLE C*NT!!!! It pisses me off that it is nearly impossible to keep anything nice these days, eventually someone or something will wreck it for you!
This weekend i need to get this passenger driveshaft replced as the current one has well and truly been raped! I also desperatley need to crack on getting these Wedsports painted as i can feel these heavy OZ's dragging on everything transmission wise and i don't like the feel of it! They make the car really pull around the road nastily. Also if anyone knows where i can get a OEM red sir badge for the rear it would be much appreciated as i've been looking for weeks!
More upates soon.
9 updates 13 followers 12 mods2012-02-07 15:52:26Some updates coming soon! After a few more miles, it also needs a new clutch & passenger driveshaft! Hopefully get the Wedsports stripped and painted this weekend too!
9 updates 13 followers 12 mods2012-01-23 16:38:19Hi all, thought i'd better get round to putting one of these up before i never do! Basically, swapped my EP1 for this Del Sol SiR. Picked it up from AeroJim on the 24th of Dec. When i got it, it was on 2 pink and 2 white wedsports that Jim originally wanted back. So i got the car home and swapped it over onto the Oz's i had, the next day i had to give it a wash as it hadnt been done for about 6 months lol.
I washed and dried, blowed all exess water out with the airline and gave it 2 passes with a wool cutting pad & SRP, then 2 coats of Meg Carnuba Wax by hand, which bought it up like so.
Though after this all it bought up was all the swirl marks and scratches that it had, but it was an improvement, i also gave the car a good old once over and built a temporary list of things that needed to be done.
- New thermostat to try and get the car up to temp.
- Replace missing sump bolts, leaking slightly but not a great deal.
- Sort front bumper & wings out.
- GOOD service.
While under the car i also noticed that the drivers rear LCA bolt had worked itself out so that it was only about 1.5 threads in!!! Needless to say this was taken care of there and then with mr whippy gun.
The next weekend after this i changed, all filters, engine oil, gearbox oil, new plugs, replaced as many sump bolts as i could ( 2 i was unable to get in need to get the manifold off). Also done some shopping and got it all through ready for a good weekend session on it.
- Mtec drilled & grooved all round.
- New pads all round.
- Meguiars Swirl Remover 2.0
- 3M Yellow Fine Polishing Pad & Blue Finishing Ultra Gloss Pad.
- New Thermostat.
- New Bulbs.
- New Valve Stem Seals, Rocker Cover Gasket, Sump Gasket.
- New Transtop Tiler Cogs (mine sound a bit rough!) Also got them cheap....
- New antenna.
First thing i done was to change the thermostat which i just whipped out quick on the driveway! Put the old one in a cup of boiling water and it was definatley fucked lol.
Next day i got up early to get down the yard to go at the car with the new compounds.
Can't be good for the seals! Might just buy new ones for peace of mind :P
Got down the yard, gave the car a GOOD washing this time, got underneath cleaned the rear arches out, removed about 60 tonne of silt and shit. Noticed a bit of surface rust lower passenger side, might tiger seal the arch lips up? What other methods can be used? Dont want to to cut the lips off preferably.
Got the car inside under the lights, fired the factorys compressors up, was blowing all the left over water off and fucked my SiR sticker at the same time :( . Suppose going at it with 8 bar of pressure is a no no now then! lol :P
Started with bonnet using the Swirl Remover & Yellow 3M pad.
Now the Swirl remover is good the only gripe i have with it, is that i think it has some sort of all in one wax shit in it too, making it harder than necessary to buff off; also it is good, does what it says on the tin, removes swirl marks, but not a lot more than that!! Need to get some harsher cutting pads and another compound to suit the job, any suggestions? Some scratches are pretty deep so probably wont come out!
Went over the whole car twice, and then again twice with Megs Carnuba Wax using the Blue finishing pad. By this time it was about 9pm so deicided not to start anything else!
Too tired so only took a few pics...
And a few from the next morning, when it was already dusty!!! :P
Also need a passenger skirt or maybe a lip kit!
Went round a mates unit that night, upon leaving i could hear the rear side caliper sticking a little bit, gave it a chance to sort itself out, of which it only got worse! Pulled over to find the rear hub glowing orange :\
Being in a situation where i had NOTHING to start bashing with, i had to make the best of a shit situation and just keep going, pulling over to let it cool every 2 minutes until it had worn itself out! :(
Thankfully the drilled & grooved came later that week so i could get at it!
That weekend hit the yard again to get the brakes on, few dusty pics before hand, brothers 330 sneaking a peak in to the right!
Got the car in, whipped off the rear passenger side first to see what was up, half anticipating it anyway but still thinking FML, the caliper was fucked.
It also seemed to be on the piss which would explain why the back pad was worn to metal at the bottom but nearly brand new at the top!! Fucking winding piston calipers i spose.....
So being stuck in a shit situation where i need the car and can't afford to have it off the road i ran round to camberlys to try my luck, which was SORT of in, as they had one on the shelf, but i had to give them my old caliper and £160!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fml. :(
So with my new rear caliper that looks like its made from compressed kit kat foil, i cracked on with the car again, had to wait for my bro and the impact driver to get the last disc screw out, so i whipped the other side off too, to which i found that seal on that caliper was fucked too! But it still moved and worked so i just made the decision to put it back on as it was.
All the new passenger side on
I ran the brakes for about 50km they were still feeling a little bit feeble, i'm wondering if the initial rub was too much, as the calipers were a tighter than normal fit! I gave them a quick blast, but they seem to be a shit... Maybe get some EBC pads and try again!!! With semi decent brakes now, the car is much more 'driveable' :P killed a few mates 1.8t's on the way to worthing last night! Good times.
- Get the roof off and strip down the tilter mechanism and replace with new cogs.
- Get some paint sort the front bumper, bonnet and wings out.
- Get new SiR sticker :(
- Re-seal under the drivers wing/windscreen cowling, stop water coming through to the drivers footwell, which isnt too bad, it never comes through the matt, but if you lift the carpet and feel underneath its wet! Which cant be helping towards preventing rust.
- Shotblast and repaint the Wedsports i bought off Jim! (They were in my shed already so i might as well of just bought them :P )
- Sort scratches.
- Sort out book leak.
- Get some new rings, strip head down, replace gaskets, stem seals etc. Try and get rid of smokey vtec.
- Replace sump bolts, maybe get baffled sump.
- Long term, get a respray in bayside blue, sort out rest of turbo stuffs!
- Recieve rear gathers covers in post, get new speakers for the front, replace missing rear speakers.
- Take out antenna already put in, remove few teeth from the belt, so it stops making awful noises.
