Welcome to my Ford Prefect progress thread, When I purchased the car it had been sat for a long time covered in oil, consequently it was very rust free. Its been a slow project due to other cars and commitments (I'm away at uni) and the plans have changed a million times but progress is speeding up now, & its meant to be finished for this spring. I won't say the plans as they will only change so wait and see..

2012-11-05 22:26:00Here is a picture just to let anyone interested that I'm still here! Up until a couple of months ago I had 6 cars in various states of disrepair. After finally considing that I had bitten off more than I could chew I sold the lot bar this one (as it was my fave) and tried to survive the return to uni without a car...
I lasted 3 weeks then took nicked my sisters car (she hasn't got a licence).
Anyway here is the most up to date picture I have, the rear arch and part of the sill was filled so I'm replacing the lot at the mo. Had a change of direction for the engine to have just bought a 1500 pre crossflow from a cortina which is be lightly hotted up.

2012-04-02 18:37:02not an overly exciting update but an important one, my garage is finallly up, taken a lot of work to get to this point and tbh i think im going to sell the capri as i've taken on rather alot. 4 cars is too much for a student
I've got an autoelectrian coming over tomorrow to help me get the original engine going before the conversion then its getting new brakes and a full exhaust system so that it can be MOTd to help move it too and from my dads work (where we will be doing the conversion-

2012-01-23 22:22:16Update and its a biggy! Engine has litterally just been purchased & I'm buzzing about it. Many have been telling me to Zetec it, Tedley being one of them lol. But I couldnt resist an old skool engine with massive carbs & a lumpy idile. So I've gone and bought a 1340cc Crossflow Race engine, here is the spec that we know atm:
1340CC CROSSFLOW
2000E GEARBOX
MICRO DYNAMICS OVER REV LIMITER
LUCAS COIL
FACET ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP
PROFUEL FLOW CONTROLLER
OIL COOLER RAD AND PUMP
LIGHTEND AND BALANCED FLYWHEEL
TWIN 40 S
ALLOY ROCKER COVER
DOUBLE SPRUNG VALVES
HIGH LIFT CAM (UNKNOWN MAKE)
PIRANHA ELECTRONIC IGNITION CONTROL BOX
More importantly it comes with the box required to mix with ours, so happy days all in all, only problem is its in Sheffield! So long ass road trip ahead!-

2012-01-14 22:07:16Bit of an update on this today, there has been an on going arguement with the DVLA who are determined that the car was made in 1978 and therefore should be taxed dispite the fact that the prefect went out of production in 1962 and this ones date of manufactor is 1960. They agreed with a confirmation letter from the correct authority on the model it would be enough to have this corrected. So Dave from the Sidevalve owners club in the sussex region came down today to have a look at the car and took all the relevant details so it should be in hand now.
The car is looking particularly sad for itself at the moment sitting in the corner next to the capri under a tree. But I have another update on this front with our new garage getting ordered very soon (this week), then the real work will start.
Plans:
1600 Crossflow conversion with alternator (for a sterio etc)
Respray probably in original colour or I'm toying with a light met blue that came on some mk3 capris. I did also think it would be cool for it to match the capri but i dont think it would suit what we have in mind for that.
cage and half cut buckets
very low on capri 2.8i wheels or banded steels in cream with chrome hub caps which came with the car in the boot! -

lovely, keep those wheels - even if you pur Capri ones on, Google 'Banded steels' too
-

Yeah I did think about having them banded, I think I would prefer a set of lotus cortinas banded, I've also got a full set of chrome hub caps in the car as well so they would go well with it.

Black and silver plates?
-
2012-01-12 15:11:52
yeah thats the plan as they are legal for this, having some registration problems atm so got to sort that before i do anymore to the car really. On the look for a crossflow conversion as well.

2012-01-05 15:26:01I will update with some pictures soon, trying to work out how to upload them as we speak lol.
I looking to transplant a 1600 modded crossflow into the car, aiming for just over 100bhp, I'm going to convert the car to a steering rack which I have off of a Capri shell I recently purchased.
To make the car useable, which I feel is important for a classic so that it doesn't sit in the garage is that I'm going to also convert it to alternator so that I can power a sterio etc. I also want the car to be sitting nice and low with capri 2.8i alloys.
Other than that I will just enjoy it for what it is then get on with my other projects
As above. I'll try and get some pictures up ASAP
Charlie
